Did you know this formation was a full mountain? From what I understand, what you see is the left over lava tube (the throat of the volcano) that released the lava and then cooled. As time moved on, the mountain surrounding the tower eroded leaving only the tower - hence, Devil's Tower. Cool huh!?!
Been a good day. The weather is warm with a bit of a breeze and gentle riding. Spearfish Canyon is after lunch.
